Basic Statistics Using EXCEL

Objectives

This two day course gives a comprehensive introduction to basic statistical methods for market researchers and is customised to your particular requirements. Emphasis is placed on the interpretation of the statistical summaries obtained and their application in the working context. The course uses EXCEL to carry out the statistical analyses.

Typical Content (can be modified to suit your particular requirements)

  • Data investigation
  • Variability and distributions, measured variables, counts and attribute data
  • Estimation of response rates - precision, confidence intervals, significance tests
  • Sample size - how big a sample do I need? Concept of power
  • Estimation of means - standard errors, confidence intervals and significance tests
  • Comparisons of means - T tests (paired and independent samples)
  • Correlation
  • Simple regression - modelling

Entry Level

The course assumes no prior statistical knowledge

Style

The course contains a mixture of formal training sessions and practical workshops where participants can analyse data from structured exercises using EXCEL. We prefer to run the course using customised data from the participants' own environment but off the shelf data sets can be used.
